The Morning Doo

Any of you XJ or unibody guys added frame stiffeners to your jeep? Could you tell a difference?

Melissa's XJ makes a lot of creaks and noises. The doors sound like hell when you open and close them and it thuds a lot riding down the road.

Haha I figured that had a lot to do with it. I've never really been in many pre 97 until hers and have started to notice all it's quirks, no cup holders, interior light doesn't turn on when back door or lift gate open etc.

On the door popping look at the spring loaded door check. it bolts to the door and the arm has a pivot pin on the body. The pins get lost or the sheet metal on the door will fatigue and crack causing it to move and make all kinds of noise.

I put stiffeners on both of my ZJs and only really noticed a difference while flexed. Still have the pops and creaks but on the trail I can actually open and close my rear hatch if the Jeeps flexed out.

Thanks I'll look into the door thing. Some of its probably tires components with 160k miles. With stock tires the thing is a lot of fun to drive although I have some spacers I thought about throwing in the front of it.

Another ?, I know the 4.0l is known for ticking but is there anyway to quiet it down? Thought about putting some Lucas in it, haven't looked at the manifold but I don't think it's a leak.
