I hope they left you the casting for the lunette, as that is stupid expensive. I know Brooks (97TJGUZZY) might be willing to sell his as well as he was moving to a different set up. .

Ordered my rtt last week, and it should be here next week. I also have the lid installed, and mostly painted aside from the top which I am waiting for the rtt for that...got the new TreadWright 215/85R16 mud terrains installed today...pics to follow;)

I have a pair of NET tires available should anyone want them ;)

The last lid was just skinned with aluminum. The frame of it was steel. I'm building this one out of thinner steel and thinner steel sheet metal in hopes to make it similar weight but I can do it myself instead of paying somebody to work the aluminum.

Well I got the steel from a job that was canceled, so I may start building me a trailer here soon. I like the 416's so I got some measurements from shane's while I was doing some repairs. I'm using 1.5x3" for the basic frame, and XJ springs. I guess with orders being slow right now, and the shop clear, I got the itch to build!

Just curious, but why not skin it in thick oil canvas? You can still mount through it and keep it water tight, it's light, and easily replaced if damaged. That's the route I'm taking. I would rather someone cut my canvas to steal, than bust up the frame prying to steal!

I would rather them realize its a locked metal box and turn away than cut the canvas...

I bought a sheet of 16 gauge steel to skin it with, but I am debating using aluminum again. It would literally weigh half as much.

16 gauge steel weighs 2.5 lb /ft^2 so the total lid would be 60 lbs in skin alone

12 gauge aluminum is what I used on the other lid and it weighs 1.14 lb/ft^2 so the lid skin would weigh 27.5 lbs

but now I'm at the point where I have the steel here and I dont know what to do with it if I dont use it...

I'm waiting on a call back on the price of a 5x10 sheet of aluminum.
