just saw the press release where apple is allowing google maps free ap now. That was the only thing holding me from getting an apple at my next upgrade. Anyone used the new ap?
Ever since IOS 6 came out with the new maps I have been using it and my Garmin when going somewhere and the apple directions have never been wrong, but the Garmin has. I must be the lucky one, but I don't see what the big deal is.

As bad as this is to say, as attached as we have become to our smartphones, do you really want a big company telling you What you can and can't do with a device you pay a large amount for and are typically locked into for 2 years ..... if apple wanted to block say "web based forums" or easily remove tapatalk they could.... apple is as bad as communism.

Apple's maps suck balls. It makes me hate my iPhone... glad to get the google maps. And Trent, you are 100% correct. The world is coming to communism. PERIOD. Fawkin Obummer.

If you want an unstable device, then jailbreak it, or get a droid, or a windows phone for that matter (or if you really want to go slumming, get a blackberry). Apple doesn't just randomly get rid of things like forum browsing because they had a wild hair, that's misleading. They do control the app approval process, and that is a good thing. I don't have 20 different conflicting apps that crash my phone, because they won't approve the half assed apps that would cause it. It runs like its supposed to without me having to be a programmer. To be clear, I'm not a fan of apple, have never had one of their desktops. But I have had my hands on about every phone there is. Just the nature of the business. And for the ease of use and functionality, there really isn't anything that is close to the iPhone. I am hoping the new windows 8 phones are great, but we'll see.

I don't plan on going to anything but an iPhone. I am very happy with it. Just the GPS sucks in stock form. And most of the apps have sucked as well.

Amen Greg!!

I was VERY impressed with the GPS that comes on the iphone5. We used it on a 6hr trip on all BACK ROADS from Clemson to the Florida state game 2 days after it was released and it was spot-on.

If apple has a problem they handle it quickly.

Brooks, why would a GPS function hold you off from a phone. Does the phone you went with do all the plotting that you wanted vs. your normal gps?

Yes. My work phone is a iPhone 4S and overall, it is a pretty good phone. Works well as a phone (much needed) and the keyboard for texting and emailing is pretty good. I can tell that as a 3G device, it is slower than my 4G personal droid phone. Also it performs better because at night I turn it off (people on the west coast seem to forget that it is 9:30pm here when it is only 6:30pm there, sorry but I'm not talking business during my night cap). But yeah, phone and email are the bread and butter for me and this phone does it great. Also handles my travel apps (delta, hertz, hilton, etc) with ease. Oh and on the speed, the phone does seem slow at times but when I use it as a mobile wifi hotspot (CRUCIAL at airports as airports have shady/spotty wifi...if any at all) I'm able to do decent web browsing and light emailing. It can't handle 20MB of photos but I can stick a PDF document on an email and send it via wifi hotspot from my computer. Also I've used this in the field, linking it to my tablet for navigation or whatever. That is nice.

First off, in reality, the apple maps was fairly decent. I always input an address so it always took me to THAT address. Second with the update, the actual navigation screen was kin to googles nav (the little arrow on the street following the blue line and you are trailing it). However I prefer google maps and downloaded it yesterday. I used it this morning, pinpointed bad traffic on the way to le work.

Overall, before this job I was thoroughly anti-apple. But really, they do make a very good device that appeals to everyone. I'll be in Texas in the middle of BFE and the good ole boys will have their iPads mounted in the 1 ton trucks and talking on their iPhones. Then I'll go to my local dive bar in hippy town and everyone is instagraming on their iPhones. I mean really, its pretty good.

My only thing is moving files and photos around. On my android tablet, it is SO easy. Just bluetooth the PDF of the bid to my tablet and I can read it. Can't do that with apple but I am playing around with DropBox right now so I'm able to pull photos off the phone which is nice.

I'd like to get a Iphone 5 in the next year. If nothing else, just for the 4G. If this phone had 4G then I wouldn't care.

The apple-only plug isn't that big of a deal. My g/f also has an apple phone and when I'm over there I can use her charger and vice versa. Battery is pretty good. If I'm on it all day it'll die but for light use, a couple of days which is nice.

Accessories for the iPhone are mad. Sucks because I can't get crap for my personal phone (Samsung Stratosphere) but for the apple, I can get all kinds of crap. Speaking of that, this weekend I'm going to pick up a set of headphones for my work phone. I've heard the new ones for the iPhone 5 are pretty good. Should be nice when I'm in loud places and need to be on the phone.

Overall, coming from an apple hater, its pretty good.

Looks like Brooks may pull out a win on TJOM, funny that a few votes have been from people that joined JF today!!:flipoff2:

Is there a certian 60 rear that people use for buggys or Jeeps? I'm trying to figure out what to rob one of out. I wanted to say Nicks was out of the same truck that his front axle came from. Don't really wanna put a trench digger out back, but may end up having too.

I think the biggest difference is you want to have an axle with spindles big enough to fit 35 spline. Some Dodges you can bore if they are not already 35 spline. Chevys can go either way whether they can be bored or not. And I think all Fords should either have 35 spline, or be capable of fitting 35 spline by boring the spindle.
