COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A College of Charleston student is suing a Cayce man after discovering she was secretly filmed having sexual intercourse with the man, and the video was posted on the internet.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Harold "Tripp" Worthy III invited the 19-year-old student to Columbia on December 31, 2011 to attend a VIP party at a club. She says she was first contacted by Worthy via social media when she was in high school.
The victim says Worthy purchased her drinks at the nightclub, and she became intoxicated.
The victim, who was a freshman in college at the time, then went home with Worthy where the two had sexual intercourse, reports state.
The report states the victim found out she was secretly filmed when another victim of Worthy's contacted her on September 25 to let her know a video of the two having sexual intercourse was posted on a website.
The video was posted sometime after January 1, 2012.
According to the victim's lawyer, Worthy placed a hidden camera in his bedroom to film himself engaging in sexual activity with the victim, and then sold the video for profit.
The victim's lawyer says she had no knowledge she was being filmed, and did not consent to being filmed in any way.
The video was posted on a site that Worthy promotes, showing his sexual exploitation of women in South Carolina, says the victim's lawyer.
Court documents state the victim has suffered harm to her right to privacy in her private affairs, along with mental anguish, mental and emotional distress, mental suffering, humiliation, embarrassment, and damage to her reputation.
The lawsuit is calling for actual damage and punitive damages, as well as requesting the video be removed from the website.
