Project Flamingo

I have been keeping my eye out for an XJ for a few years but the pricing on one that hasn't been beaten....well like and XJ was absurd in my opinion. I know some folks don't care for them but they have always been one of my favorite jeep models. My first wife and I had one while in college and loved it dearly. Well my brother in law was picking up a durango from a guy in Georgia and saw he had two XJs on the property. Long story short got both of them for $500. The guys daughter got in a fender bender and bought the 4 door as a donor. Project never got off the ground and just wanted them gone. The 2WD I will be completing has a low miles 4.0 and is 2 wd. Once I get back from Vegas, family will be going down to strip the donor of all the goodies and 4wd parts and driving the 2wd home.

Plan is to turn this into a fun vehicle for Madi to get back to driving a jeep while teaching the boys how to wrench and eventually learn to drive in. So first up is fixing all the cosmetic stuff and making sure its mechanically sound. Madi has picked out an interesting color scheme from Monstaliner(hence the project name). Then the conversion to 4wd will commence! Plan on making this little jeep a good kayak hauler/overlander build. Should be fun!

Then things had to unhappen haha. While starting to remove good parts to the donor it became increasingly clear the "minor" fender bender was a bit more severe. Found some nasty buckling and cracks through the body. For safety reasons we had to abandon the 2 door. Which is a shame for the rarerty. However the 4 door body wise and functionality wise for my family does make way more sense. Only negative is it was owned by an insane person and the motor was locked up.....so engine swap it is. Got both motors pulled and all the body panels installed back to the 4 door. Waiting on parts from Rock auto and will be back in a few weeks to finish buttoning it all together and driving home. If anyone has some stock fender flares and decent deal on a set of tires for 15 wheels do shout-out!
