Making Airing up Easier

#1
On board air, there are tons of ways to do it: CO2, ARB compressor, viair, etc. They all provide pressurized air to fill your tires.

I'm more concerned with what you do with that air. So the Airing down process is easy and fast in multiple ways, but when its time to air up its a little bit more tricky. For the longest time, I used a local gas station or someone else air source. Then I had CO2 and now I have a viair. They all work for providing air.

My CO2 and my Viair require me to hold a air gun trigger to let air flow. I'm looking to make it where I turn on the compressor, hook it up to my tire and then walk away till it turns off at the set pressure. Then possibly use 2 hoses so that I can do 2 tires at once.

I'm thinking I could use an adjustable pressure regulator with 1 inlet and a Y on the outlet and just set the regulator to the pressure I want the tires to be. That way when its to pressure, the pressure will build in the input line from the compressor to the regulator and the compressor will shutoff.

Anyone have any ideas or think this wouldn't work?

It should work. I have the same type of regulator on my shop compressor. I crank it down to 40ish when winterizing the camper, but I don't really know how accurate it is.

You'd need good clip on or screw on open flow chucks on your output lines.

Sounds good in theory but I think if you set it to 30 for say it’s going to regulate your compressor output to that which is going to significantly increase your fill time. I’ve considered getting a kit like the Morrflate 4 tire kit https://morrflate.com/shop/morrflate-multi-tire-air-kits/morrflate-quad-4-tire-air-kit/
You at least wouldn’t have to sit there and hold the trigger but it would still need babysat and checked on occasion to get to your intended psi.
You can do a DIY kit similar to it if you want to get crafty. I’ve put stuff in my Amazon cart a while back to do that but haven’t pulled the trigger on it.
If you try the regulator I’d go with a digital option at least. Let us know how it goes if you do!

I got something like that last year for christmas, but it needs something so I don't have to babysit all the tires. Currently my Viair gun is closed unless i hold the trigger... So I was thinking I could use the 4 tire kit I have, but use it with a regulator.

More research required but what about an air pressure switch? Don’t know that it would work either. Ideally having max compressor psi output until desired psi is researched would be ideal….the regulator is going to take forever once it gets close to set psi I think. Not bad if you walk away and aren’t sweating fill time but the compressor is going to get hot. I know my dual Arb is super warm when I’m done filling mine

I have these Haltec air chucks in my cart from when I was researching a while back..

I definitely need to invest in something. I have to air up even if I trailer to get my tires inside the rails. It’s that tight of a fit! Lol. Airing up the 37s to 28 from 6-8 takes a while even with the dual Arb and I’m currently doing one at a time.

I like those chucks, might be a good compromise for the locknflate.

I have locknflate in my cart but can't justify $50 for a chuck, not to mention 4 of them.
I think I'm going to do just 2 tires at a time, the 4 tire one takes up a good bit more space.

Chase just ordered some kit with a bunch of hoses, might ask him what he got. Seems pointless... I have never been in a hurry to air up. It would be nice to have a air chuck that would lock on a fill to a certain PSI then stop... Sounds like a project for future tripp... Little arduino, Air valve, Bluetooth app control....shit im spiraling out of control...

Yeah, I'm not trying to overcomplicate, but I think it would be nice to set it and forget it for 1,2,4 tires at a time. My viair has an auto shutoff when it reaches 150psi so that would be a great notification of when its done.

Maybe a wireless airbag compressor setup would work. Airlift and even some off brand Amazon compressors have apps or remotes to pump to a set pressure and automatically cut off.

I dont remember if I still have this, gave it away, or threw it away. I'm sure the compressor wouldn't have the capacity to do anything, but I wonder how the controller worked...
