I kept breaking the cheap truckstop mounts....Not anymore.. Im pretty sure this could be used as a tow point now. Its solid brass and weighs about 1 lb.

Nah... Then it will beat the hell out of the hardtop and not allow the rear window to open with the hard top on.

Good point. On my Xterra I have a through-the-fender mount and a spring. The only thing it hits is the passenger side cargo window, so no real worries there. I still never told my wife I drilled the body of a new vehicle.

Typed on a phone where my fingertip spans across three or four keys creating lots of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

Yeah, mounting below the metal tub is not a good thing. So where I ultimately put it was a rather poor choice when trying to open the back glass.
