'Deliverance' star returns to Upstate to film new movie, extras needed

OCONEE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - Burt Reynolds, who starred in "Deliverance" more than 40 years ago, is coming back to the Upstate to make a new movie.

Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander said Reynolds will start filming "Elbow Grease" beginning on Sept. 30.

Jason Shirley, the writer and producer of the movie, said some of the movie will be filmed around Ram Cat Alley and the downtown area and that some filming will also be done around Lake Keowee.

Alexander added that Shirley has family members who lived in Oconee County.

Ken Sloan, president of the Oconee County Convention and Visitors Bureau said he expects the film crew and cast to be in the county for 60 to 90 days, although Reynolds will not likely be there that long.

Reynolds was one of the stars of the 1972 movie hit "Deliverance," some of which was filmed on the Chattooga River in Oconee County.

The casting folks for "Elbow Grease" say they are looking for 200 to 250 extras. These are not paid roles. If you are interested you can email your name, phone number, email address and a recent photo to: elbowgreaseextras@gmail.com.

I remember hearing small talk about Burt renting a house nearby or something to that affect and people seeing the filming happening downtown but yeah......what happened to the movie?
