2025 Family Vacation Adventuring - OBX Edition

#1
We had to scratch the out west trip for this year due to a multitude of reasons. But mainly life with a 3 YO and work priorities made it out of reach.

We landed on a trip to the Outer Banks in lieu. And driving the TJ down so that will make it a bit of an adventure. We're staying in Corolla on the waterway and the house comes with Kayaks. Planning for a lot of fishing, beaching, adventuring and relaxing.

We will be going down to OIB first for a couple of nights to visit friends and driving up the coast to OBX. We have not really finalized any sort of itinerary yet, just a lot of places we want to hit.

Items on our hot list "to-do":
Wright Brothers Museum
Grave Digger Shop
Ocracoke Island/Ferry
Visit most of the beaches and do a lot of riding around

Any must-do's from those of you that have been to OBX?

Stop in the Downpoint Decoy Shop in Ocracoke if passing through off the ferry. Truly some beautiful artwork and hand made decoys. There is also a Taco Truck close by that is pretty amazing. I've spent the last 5 summers just on Ocracoke and have very much enjoyed it.

also be aware the Ocracoke to Hatteras ferry is a first come first serve basis. No time slots like the cedar island to Ocracoke. Be prepared to wait if its a busy day. Can easily eat up 3-4 hours waiting on a ferry if its a long line.

Well, didn’t take many pictures the last couple days but…

Lots of monster trucks on the beach at ocean isle.

Left out from OIB around 11:30 AM and finally made it to the house at 8PM. Made a grocery stop in Kitty Hawk but will have to go back out tomorrow unfortunately. Only so much fits in a TJ.

I was just coming in to this thread to check on them and see what the weather was like. Looks like a recent turn may bring it closer to the OBX. The news was saying mandatory evacuation of Hatteras Island.

Woke up to ear breakfast with the wild horses. Did diggers dungeon and weight brothers today. Figure the beach may be sketch the next couple days. We’re staying close to the house till Thursday-ish is the plan.

Hope we can have another expedition Friday.
