I bought my wife a YJ in December and I'm looking for options for the transmission. We bought it with a 4.0 and AX-15 but I'm finding the synchros are worn in 2 or 3 gears. My wife doesn't drive stick so I'm teaching her, but the problems with the trans are making it a bit more difficult. I can drive it fine, but trying to teach a newb to rev the motor so you can hit a gear on a downshift just isn't easy.
That said, I'm looking to see if anyone has a reasonably priced working AX-15, or a cheap one that maybe has the same issues that I could rebuild. I'd also be interested in an auto (999?). I would also entertain an NV3550 but I need to do a little research as I'm looking for as close to a bolt in swap as possible. I think the t-case shifter is the only thing that needs work in that case.
The auto would probably make my wife happy, but I like the idea of her being able to drive stick. I want her to start driving my Jeep some on wheeling trips. For the right price I could go either way.
