Alternator Upgrade Question

#1
This is on a 98 Wrangler with a 4.0 L
A few days ago the check gauge light came on. I checked the connections and the battery and all was well so I pulled the alternator and had it bench tested at 2 different parts stores and it failed at both locations. I done some research on some other forums and a lot of people are saying that they upgraded to a higher amperage alt. from like a Dakota or GC. Would this work or not? I think the 98 TJs have the voltage regulators in the PCM if the new alternator has one built in will there be a problem or will it matter? Anybody got any idea?

Can't help you there. Is there any reason you need to upgrade it or just since you were replacing it thinking of upgrade?

03-06 Rubicon has 125a alternator.
The 08 i think Dodge Durango 4.7 runs a 160a alternator. You will have to swap pulleys though.
You can Google the swap. It's common to TJ's
