Gulches Amazing Race Rules
The Gulches Amazing Race is taken from the CBS Sunday night hit television show the Amazing Race. Instead of racing around the world ours will race around our park.
Teams are made up of two people and one 4x4 vehicle. Age limit is from 13 on up but one member must be at least 18. If a member is under 18 they must get a permission slip from a parent or guardian.
Teams will be given the same written clues to areas in the park where they will receive a written task or challenge. A member of the team will perform that task as fast as they can, then receive another clue and proceed there. After performing two tasks they will be given a clue to proceed to a pit stop.
Pit stops: It is at the pit stops that teams must check in. They will be told by the pit stop marshal what order they have come in. He will state, “You are team number 1 or 2” and so on. At this point each team will be given a clue to the next leg of the race. Also at each pit stop slower teams will be eliminated from the race.
Example:
10 teams
3 pit stops
Three teams would be eliminated at the first pit stop, three more would be eliminated at the second pit stop and then the final four teams would race to the final pit stop to determine the winner. First one to check in is the winner of the Gulches Amazing Race
Tasks: Tasks will be 4x4 or park related. None will require any technical or mechanical knowledge. Just good old common sense and some normal physical strength is all that is needed.
An example of a task. “You have a flat tire and your spare is on a trailer by the cupcake trail. One team member must proceed on foot to it and bring, carry, drag or roll it to this spot. Then it is here where you will get your next clue.” We provide the tire for each team and in this case it would just be an old tire with no rim.
Clues: Clues are given to each team to send them to a task or a pit stop. All clues will be related to places in our park.
Teams must obey all rules of the park and tasks. They must obey all signs and keep vehicles on existing trails. 4x4’s must stay in 4 low and no speeding will be permitted on 2 way trails. Failure to obey rules may cost the team a timed penalty from checking in.
Teams should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Team shirts or colors are permitted and encouraged. Lightweight gloves are a good idea. A cooler with drinks and snacks are recommended.
