Dammit, I got a PM from Richard to delete his double post and I was in the What would you do to your rig today about to post about adding grabars to our JK from my phone, so I went in to delete the post and my tapatalk crashed while I was deleting the post and I lost the whole thread.

I'll throw myself under the bus. So anyways, what did you do to your rig Today?

I use my GraBars every time. My JKU came with those other handles like you have in the picture and they were awkward and worthless for us. I took them off and slung them in the back of the jeep.

Did a little work to the Samurai yesterday. Changed the oil (all 3.7 quarts of it :flipoff2: ), installed new exhaust hangers after the last one broke on the Gulches trip, installed new breather lines on the axles and a few other little things.

I REALLY need to get on storage in the rig. It has no storage, no cup holders, and the dash is crappy. I want to put an aluminum dash together but need to come up with some kind of brake.

Also found a wrecked Geo Tracker that still runs in Charleston for sale for $550. If he takes $500 I might be heading there this weekend to pick it up for a 1.6 fuel injected swap.

I actually worked on my buggy. It feels good to not have to need to work on it. Prepping for Windrock this weekend I wanted to address a few things. Pulled the front driveshaft out to fix the bolts that had broken in Harlan. The three that were in there had survived a couple of Gulches trips, but I wanted to be back to 4 bolts on the flange. Drilled the new bolts for safety wire so they won't be backing out on me again. Found a loose front differential so I tightened that up. Also got my LED light bars mounted and ready. Now to get over there to check the fluids, replace a bent suspension link, and load it on a trailer. I also started clearing all the crap off the chassis table from the suburban motor rebuild so I can get back on the new buggy.

I finally got around to ordering new tires for the JK. The plan was to use an old set of 16" steelies I have laying around, but I got too sweet of a deal on a set of KO2s that I couldn't pass on. 275/70R18 will probably rub a little with the disconnects even with 18/59 springs.

When I went a while ago I remember it being around $250 or a little higher. You had to pay for everything on the axle not just the complete axle assembly. I just looked it up to see though and found this:

Axle Assy, Truck D To D $150.25 with a $35 core
Axle Assy, Rear - Straight D To D $100.25 with a $35 core

And here's that tracker for the motor swap I mentioned earlier. Waiting on an email still.

Pull a part, $180. It really depends on who rings it up, but these were priced correctly as rear axle, disk brake type, with the core charge.

They rang up the first one as $140 and I was handing her the money and some other girl walked up and said that was wrong and changed it to $180 because it was disks. So, Tripp's and Richard's were both $180. Dad got the deal of the day because the same smart *** that corrected her on the 8.8s said the HP30 was a drum brake rear, for $105, and I didn't correct her.

Agreed, don't miss out over $50. If it runs well its worth it. If it is a 4 speed auto it should have 5.13 gears. You can sell the complete rear and the front third to someone with sami axles for a few bucks, and scrap the rest for $200-$300.

If it's the 3 speed, gears should be 4.30.

I've seen a few but never really paid attention if they were 3 or 4 speeds. Also don't know how well they hold up. It would add some complications to the swap because the tracker/sidekick doesn't use a divorced tcase. Depending on the length you could probably use a 2wd tracker trans into the Sami tcase or you would have to build new mounts, use tracker case, and new driveshafts.

Clemson5.9ZJ
09-22-2015, 12:10 PM
Yeah I am keeping the samurai manual trans. I had fun wheeling the manual last time out and with the low gearing and lack of wheel speed I would like to have that kind of control and I might as well keep the 6.5 t case. The ease of the swap is also part way in that reason. Waiting on an email from this guy, I wish he posted a phone number.

Ol powerstroke kept throwing P0405 code for EGR low circuit voltage. So bought the replacement EGR valve to swap them out. $241.38... dang diesel parts ain't cheap.

I haven't had any problems besides the code except when I towed the trailer to Charleston and back to get the Samurai, the last hour of the trip coming home it went into limp mode limiting the amount of boost the turbo made and the truck was a dog. Never did it again after that, but still is throwing the code.

They were $202 each with free shipping. It was only slightly cheaper than discount tire wanted but they wouldn't special order them over the phone so I went with Amazon. A few weeks ago they were like $154 on 4wheelparts website but when I went to order them earlier this week all the 15" sizes were taken down. Seems like discount tire has taken them off their website too.

I love KOs. I've had 5 sets on different vehicles over the years. But, for BFG to replace something that popular, I feel like they were confident they have a much better product in the KO2.

I would say they were just dated so it was time to spice it up to compete. I personally wish they would continue making the KO.

10-30-2015, 01:30 PM
According to the marketing and sales folks, the product did need to be spiced up. The sales so far have far outpaced the predictions. In today's world it seems that most consumers are always looking for the next bright shiny thing to catch their attention.

Technologically, it is a better tire design. It benefits from new design tools and lessons learned over the years.

All that being said, I am still partial to the KO myself.

Need some fuel cell tech help. First time fooling with these AN fittings. I'm plumbing up my cell in the Samurai. Both fitting for return and sending line are -8 AN. I have two 90* elbows that came with the tank. My return line is 3/16 ID hose and my fuel line is 5/16 ID hose. I am having a hell of a time finding an -8 AN female fitting to 3/16 or 5/16 barb. Only thing I can find on summit is -8 AN female to 3/8 and 1/2 barb. Do I need to just buy those and get some kind of splicer fitting to mate up to the small hose? I would just run the larger hose but the metal return line is 3/16 and the barb on the electric fuel pump is 5/16.

bgredjeep
10-31-2015, 02:46 PM
You can get barb adapters from 3/8 to both sizes you need. You may have a few other options for smaller lines if you drop to -6, but I didn't see anything to get directly to 3/16 barb from AN.

This seems to be the less common of the 2.

Found the post and ended up ordering almost close to the adapter set up you had. Dang fittings are expensive, $50 for 4 little pieces. I ordered those and am about to call CCOR to order 2 Corbeau JPs during my planning period. Yesterday I cut out the stock seats that the guy had rigged up and removed the fuel tank. Pressure washed the 2" thick layer of mud in the tub and when the rain stops I am going to bed line it. This next weekend is FSU so doubt I will get the fuel cell and seats mounted but shouldn't be to long. After I get those in, I just need to get on finding a 1.6 to swap to fuel injection and I should be good to go.

It's one of those projects where you prepare yourself mentally that it's gonna take 5-8 hours...at least the first time. I spent some time on youtube and then started on mine. I worked for a few hours, got frustrated and left it alone for the night, worked some more the next day and then buttoned it up the last afternoon. Maybe you get it done in half the time. Gotta drop the steering column, lay the dash in the seats, etc. I was doing the A/C
core on mine, and did the heater core while I was in there. Better think about doing both at the same time.

The part that sucks is having your roll cage in the way......wait, Brooks, do you have your cage drilled thru the top corners of the dash? facepalm

I got a 40mm ammo can yesterday to make into a center console for the YJ. Today after work i got some hinges from lowe's and went to town. Real easy to do. Only problem i had was i did not realize the support metal under the lid. I originally was going to weld the hinges underside, but i did not feel like trimming the bracing underneath, so i went with them on the topside. The hinges stop and allow it to sit upright with no problem. Now to mount it in the center. Eventually i will put an eye bolt or another way of locking it securely. Right now i needed something for the camping trip this weekend. I wanted something to mount my old cupholders to. For giggles I put the JK up on a ramp tonight to see how much clearance I have with the sway bar disconnected. With the 33s on stock 18" wheels it rubs......a lot. With not much in the way of steering lock. I do have a set of 1 1/2" spacers I could use but even then I can see it rubbing more than I'm comfortable with. With Uwharrie coming up I'd like to think pulling the links would make for a better time.

Sounds like you need to add bump stops long enough to get all the travel you can without rubbing. Having the sway bar disconnected makes for a more comfortable ride offroad, you get rid of a lot of side-to-side motion of the cab....and you'll have a better time and make it over more obstacles that you are used to.

Bump stops.

sarkozy

That was my first thought. Thanks for the clarification. The other and possibly bigger issue is rubbing the sway bar. Looking at quick disconnects, it seems implausible that a metal stud sitting in the end of the bar won't pop a tire, even with the bar level. I'm going to throw a spacer on the next chance I get to see if it'll clear the end link a little more.

Wheel spacers. I ran 35s with about an inch of lift on my 11. No issues in the front aside rubbing plastic...and that's ok. Finally trimmed fenders because I kept ripping the rear flares off.

Isn't the rule of thumb to usually add 1/2" of bump stop to every 1" of lift you add? Or does it vary depending?

I would just add enough to keep the tires out of the fenders. Maybe 1/2" bump stop for every 1" of additional tire height

I keeps throwing the power steering belt off, but it steers easier with the ps box with no belt than it did with the manual box...

Fixed up the headlight assembly. It was pointing downward and couldn't see anything. Also put in fancy light bulbs. A lot better.

Lastly, I think these are the original spark plugs that came in the truck...wires, cap, and rotor all look pretty rough.

I was able to get the mud/dust cleaned out of the JK today and hardtop put back on. Thought I'd made it out of big creek with just some dings and a bent crossmember but somewhere in that fun I rolled the lip of the cover on the rear d44. Didn't notice it leaking for all the mud on it. Unfortunately there was a cup or so worth of fluid left in there, so the LSD won't be getting replaced with a locker anytime soon. A cast iron Teraflex cover is on the way that should sit flush with the housing and cure that issue next time.

Got the fuel cell all mounted up in my Sami. Got to get the Corbeaus mounted up this week. I don't have any covered area to work on it so kind of got screwed over break with all the rain. Planned on having all this done.

I've got to order lap belts. Will put 4 points in it once I get a spreader bar welded in, just won't happen before the Flats next weekend. Where are you guys buying your harnesses? I was looking at Crow. $47 a piece for 2" lap belts. I read a lot of people like the 2" lap belt with 3" padded shoulder straps. Until I get rid of this carb I don't see myself needing shoulder straps anytime soon.

Ordered a billet battery tie down to replace the ratchet strap in the samurai as well as a GM alternator mount. Alternator went out when we were night wheeling Saturday. Had Scott pull me up a hill and roll started it in reverse to get back to camp. Also got a new glovebox door since the hinge was broken. I am surprised at the amount of interior and exterior body parts readily available for the Samurai.

The other weekend I ran into a tree in the f250 when I was backing up to drop firewood off when we were camping. Had some big headed dude sitting in the back blocking my view. Was planning on ordering a metal aftermarket bumper but those are stupid expensive. Finding 08+ bumpers on ebay for around $200 so think I will go that route and mount the new 08+bumper on my 05.

Went to the upstate today and brought home a prize. 1948 CJ2a. Very very original. Even came with the original tires and wheels. Gonna clean it and mothball it so i can get to work on the YJ and stretch it and repower, but it is going to be hard. This is gonna be a fun jeep. Gonna stay stock also. To original to really mod it.

Nice. Is this model equipped wirh a PTO? The wife of my childhood best friend inherited her grandfather's graduation gift, a brand new 1946 CJ-2A, complete with factory installed PTO and it even had the original owner's manual that had a section on how to plow a field with it. Apoarently, with all the countless surplus GP's everywhere, they once tried to market them as an akternative to a small tractor.

Some more pictures of the Jeep. I have it unloaded and pressure washed.
The silver lining to the Jeep arrival is it has been welcomed with open arms from the children and wife. The wife is actually in love with it and instructed me to not do the stretch or engine swap on the Wrangler and to concentrate on the Willys. And my daughter sat down with me this after noon and pulled out a notepad and started making a list of things that needed to be done to the jeep and would write down a price on what i told her what it is estimate to be. :)

Biggest thing to to figure out what the original color was. I see green, but under the serial number it is red. i kind of trust that one the most.

I pulled the ratty tires off the rims. Alot of rust. 4 rims are alike, the 5th is just a touch wider. I had one rims that was totally rotted bad around the valve stem hole. I think that rim is going to dumpster. so now i have 3 the same size and one that is just 1/4 wider.

I have the OxyQuantum LED UV/Ozone unit installed on the supply side of my indoor unit and the MicroPower Guard Filter installed on the return side. http://www.dugganheatingac.com/indoor-air-quality/

A place out of Augusta put it in for me yesterday. If you want, I can give you an update on how it works in a month or so before you pull the trigger on purchasing something, being that they are not cheap and are a considerable investment.

One not of caution, it has to be placed smartly, as the UV will literally disintegrate plastic within a year or so. In my case, the return ducts were flex-ducts attached straight to the return box of the air handler and the tech said that if he put it there, those ducts would be gone in a year or less. My supply side was a metal distro-box with a metal manifold, hence he put it on the supply side. He turned it on and showed me it working and it was BRIGHT and shot all the way up the fan and to the coils. You also have to make sure any wiring is out of the way of the light. The unit is powered via relay that turns on only when the fan is operating. The unit draws 44 watts.

The MicroPower guard filter slides right into a slot on the air handler that was literally made for that filter. It has a sturdy aluminum frame that holds the filter media. The media is replaced every three months and draws 2 watts of power. The tech told me the only benefit to having traditional filters in the returns is to have less dust in the return ducts, and even then to just use the cheapest filters available. I will update you on the performance of the system come this spring when God uses pollen to punish mankind for it's sins.

Probably weighs about 50 lbs. I didn't check the shipping weight. Since it does go over the existing plate, I lost about an inch in clearance. I used my motorcycle lift to hold it in place while I worked on it. The two pieces make it a little easier to install

Got a few more small things to finish but and do but it is getting close to ride ready.

Drove mine to work yesterday and went by CFS to discuss the next round of mods. Got home and parked outside because wife's car was blocking it's spot. After dinner came back down to shuffle cars and back the jeep in the garage and the shift linkage fell off... stuck in drive. So I pulled it in the garage instead... Guess I'll be finding out if the HELP! package of transmission shifter bushings has the right one for a 42RLE.

watched an extreme 4x4 episode last night on shock tuning and it made me really want to dive into a rebuild on my coilovers. I have the rebuild kits and new amsoil shock oil. Just need to find the time and maybe a beer drinking supervisor?

Just bring all that to Oscar, if them Iva boys can do a motor swap in the camp ground surely they can have those shocks done in just a min. Plus you would have a whole bunch of beer drinking supervisors.

This will be going in my 98 4Runner.

I plan to take pics of the swap. But yeah, they bolt in. You can use the TRD Tundra front springs if you wanted to as well. But with my plans of adding skids, bumper and winch...they sag and will cause a pretty bad rake.

Will also be installing the bigger Tundra rotors and calipers when I get my wheel/spacer plans nailed down.

What are the specs on the injectors?

After 63k glorious miles I retired my Goodyear duratracs. They wore evenly but got loud and rough In the later days before removing them. I acquired Larrys old 33x10.50s a few weeks back and finally got them put on my Tacoma. I can tell a lot of difference between a newer tire and one 2" narrower. Rides a lot better and I like the look. I need to replace my rear shocks and leaf spring bushings and she'll be set for another 100k.

I put 31x10.50s on Melissa's xj awhile back with only a spacer up front. I need to add some wheel spacers to get the tires out at full lock and also add a 3" lift to get the rear out the back of the well when it's loaded down. She rubs a little with a Great Dane and a 17' center console. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160426/d1589c75bb2ff8455e0ff26fc1f39b78.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160426/af49c65c9e29a2734bf95dc243d12b82.jpg

Haven't snapped any really, I'll try and get one of her "good" side in daylight. It desperately needs some type of paint or bedliner done on the entire thing. My hood looks like a bag of dicks from the paint chipping off, just haven't really bothered with doing anything about it yet.

Been sick all week and getting antsy in the house. There was an ad for an 8274 a few weeks ago that was a little high, they dropped the price today and i haggled a little more and ended up getting it.

I got it into the garage and started tearing into it and cleaning it a bit. Everything is there, i have the hand controller, nothing in the solinoid pack is burned. The motor had some serious goop covering the terminals and once removed the terminals looked brand new. Only slight issue i found is a aluminum tab for the top cover was cracked, but i am not so worried about it. The clutch lever is stuck. Here are pics, i will probably pull it apart more this week, or tonight. i am getting antsy sitting on the couch being sick.

Those of you that actually wash/wax/polish your rigs, why?:shaking:

I started out today with the goal of bringing some life back to the paint on the half doors I just got. I wasn't looking for perfection, but hoping to make them look more like my 12 year old decent paint than the 15- 20 year old crappy paint that they are. I made my first trip to autozone for polishing compound and wax. Quickly realized the polishing compound wasn't abrasive enough so went back for running compound. I did rubbing, then polishing, then hard shell wax. Now they look like slightly Shiney 20 year old paint...

Then I decided to work on the sticker residue you can still see on the hood. Rubbing compound did nothing. I ended up using a mother's power ball with rubbing compound and it helped a little, but they're still visible. Then of course I had to do polishing compound and wax the rest of the hood...
