The 24'er Build

#1
Since getting the truck done ice been wanting a bigger trailer for towing doubles. Mainly smaller rigs like my TOYOTA, Ftoy, Tj. I found a trailer that had brand new 7200lb torsion axles with 235's load range E's on it. Only prob is it was 14'. It was built out of 6" C channel with 4" c channel cross beams every 2'. 2FFD58BB-FA4E-4F8C-8722-F6F734508B4A-3445-000004B35506F66F.jpg

The tongue we did last knowing that was gonna take alittle time plus build it where strength was an issue. From the tongue to almost the axle is a 16' piece of C-channel with no cuts in it. AF57F984-EC36-4E99-9CD2-069BCF2E0EFF-3445-000004B383C7EC1A.jpg

Once the tongue was all done it was endless Welding for what seemed like hours. No way I could do that for a living. Welders could make yoga instructors blush. DA81490F-0165-40D6-B4E7-401713CD7470-3445-000004B42358470D.jpg

Turned out alot better than I thought. I wish the whole trailer could have been new metal but then again that would have been more twice the amount of welding (did I mention I hate welding)? 1F806382-FDA7-403B-A60C-CC7B07E70729-3445-000004B449139C5C.jpg

For safety chains I went to Ts and picked up 6600lb transportation chain and 6600lb hooks. That was high, like $64. 205BDB28-6EC0-4690-B2BE-1497913CCFC9-3445-000004B496823F4A.jpg
Picked up a gallon of Rustoleum flat black and used a brush/ roller to get a good thick coat down. Amber led and led brake/tail lights. 2FAA027E-F076-4F34-BEFB-DCA3E1033032-3445-000004B483187F83.jpg

The only thing left is put my deck on. I have 4, 2x8x16's for the front and 4, 2x8x8 for the rear, and planning on leaving the center open to save weight and money. I'd be pushing $350-$400 to deck it completely.

You can always deck the rest later if you get the urge. Also, from watching George work on his 4runner on the trailer in harlan. It was almost like he was under a lift working on it.

Looks good though. Guess you will find out how you like it next week.

You going to put some sort of load leveler and sway control on it? Made a huge difference on my little 16'. Especially when passing tractor trailers on the highway.

A 3/4 ton truck holds weight much better. No real need for anything like that unless you have a big camper. I could see it being helpful with a half ton though.

I understand the leveling bar concept but I "think" not sure. But those a are for insufficient tow rigs. Not saying ones tow rig is any lesser than the other but let's face it. 30+ft bumper pull campers behind a soft rear ended half ton ain't exactly ideal. I think that's where load leveler come in. For the 4k mile trip next week it's going behind my dads Mega cab 4wd dually. If things don't work out its gone be along miserable ride cause I'm going if it sways from lane to lane.

True. It fits my sami and another jeep fine. I've had my xj and sami on it, but that's about all it would fit. I think 28 ft would be ideal.
We had Clippas buggy, and my TJ on there no problem before. And I know hes hauled his buggy with either Evans or Josh's TJ on it a good bit.

Trailer looks nice. I haul 2 rigs on my 25' gooseneck. With the bumper pull you could probably pull the front vehicle a little further foward than I can. I think it will be fine. As long as I have the contact patch of the tires on the trailer it'll ride.
