TJ top on a YJ

#1
I buy and sell Jeeps and parts to fund my builds. I have a set of Bestop 2 piece soft doors, but didn't have a top they would fit. http://www.4wd.com/Doors-Door-Accessories/Supertop-Two-Piece-Doors-for-Factory-Tops-Supertops-and-Sunrider-Tops-in-Black-Vinyl.aspx?t_c=87&t_s=503&t_pt=3955&t_pn=bst51783-01&gp=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=product&emlprox=out&ppcfon=1,1&gclid=CPunx7XB4LUCFQvpnAodJSkAaQ I just bought a Pavement Ends Flip Top complete with hardware for a TJ. http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Tops-Jeep-Top-Accessories/Flip-Top-without-Upper-Doors.aspx?t_c=75&t_s=459&t_pt=3382&t_pn=PAV44527-15

I want to use both of these to have the soft doors and a Flip-top. Doors should work with the top, but the problem will be to mate the TJ top to the YJ windhield frame. I have found articles about adapting a TJ top to a YJ, but they all seem to use a factory TJ top and end up replacing the sport cage for a TJ cage. This top is a very simple top, very YJ-like except for the windshield area. Has anyone done a TJ top swap and have some insight into this? Any build pics would help a great deal also. Or any links to something like this?

I know I could buy a Flip Top for a YJ, but that cost $500 more than I paid for this one. I have downloaded the instructions for both and if the weather warms up some today I will go out and do some fitting up. I will try to take pics and do a write up on this mod if I feel I can do it without messing something up.

The main reasons I've seen people swap the cage was for easier mounting on the door surrounds, and the mount points for the top hardware. For the windshield I thing you just have to add slots for the clamps to connect. I've seen a few threads on jeepforum about tj top installs. Might search some of those for the windshield details you need.
