Pocket knives

I don't know many people that don't carry one. For outdoor adventures, work, or self defense nothing beats a good blade. So who collects them? What's your favorite brand and style?

I recently added a new one to my collection. I've always trusted either a Kershaw or Gerber for everyday use. This is called the "Icon". Like all others I've owned, it will go through some serious testing and heavy use.

I used to carry that leatherman sideclip for years. Then I started carrying that blue Kobalt box cutter. Lately, I've been carrying that cheap lil browning knife in the middle...

I carried a nice little swiss army knife. Not the big red one, but a little one with a blade, file and scissors. The outside was stainless and it was dimpled like a golf ball. My dad got it for me for christmas one year and I carried it for 10 years. I lost it on the HULK roller coaster down in florida. Slid out of my pocket. I have quite a few knives but they are in storage at the moment. When I do carry one (fishing, hunting or on the trail), it's a spring loaded blade, stainless with a wood insert (no brand name that I can tell). I just like the spring loaded action. Easy to pull and have ready to use with just one hand.

I have a few dozen. Just put my one off Navaja Albacete Bowie up for sale. I'll give ya a deal!
I have all types of blades. Case, Buck, Kershaw, Gerber, and a hand full of one off blades.
I'm partial to fixed blades, but have about half and half folders.

That one is about $3500. What wouldn't I do with a sword? They're awesome!
Did you see the Tosh.O with the sword? He must have damaged it when he was chopping stuff with it (water cooler, wood, to name a few). Then the blade shot out of the handle mid swing and almost took out a camera man.

I carry one of three knives.

On a daily basis to the office, I will carry either my CRKT Delegate or my Remington Sportsman. The Delegate is nice, as a few of my slacks have the little mini-pocket inside the pocket. So it just clips in there.

Most of the other time, I carr ya Kershaw Speedsafe. The Speedsafe has the "change color as the angle changes" paint job on it. Which is pretty cool.

I always got a knife on me. As my Pappy always said, "If I got my britches on, I got my knife."

I've pretty much always got a Benchmade folder on me or lately a custom made fixed blade by this guy http://nativetexanknives.com/ . They are both great knives. We skinned and quartered 9 whitetail deer one night with the fixed blade and never touched the blade. You could for sure tell a difference on the last two but it got the job done. I made sure to toss a little diamond stone in my hunting bag after that though.

Depending on the day I usually carry a butter knife or steak knife if I want to be fancy. None of that plastic crap it's bad for the environment. butterfly knives used to be a necessity until I cut my pinky off.

Really though, been wanting to get a knife to carry around for my daily adventures. I use to carry a leatherman but my nubs had a hard time unfolding all the attachments most I didn't use. Wanting something nice but pretty basic, may buy 2, one for the old man too.

What's a good website to scoop some of these weapons up? I know I can go to an outdoor store but I like viewing and reviewing stuff before I buy.

If you go with a popular name knife its hard to go wrong. Gerber, Buck, Old Timer, Schrade, etc. Stay away from flea market specials or anything stamped "china". 440 steel is a great material and will most likely be stamped on the blade somewhere.

Depending on the pants I put on. Regular jeans I grab my low profile Buck and slide it in my back pocket. For carhartts with side pockets I'll grab my SOG Trident, it's alittle larger but gets scary sharp.
If you need a sharpening tool go to G5 outdoors and get their diamond stone. They make the sharpest broadhead bar none and the diamond stone is for resharpening the heads but it's great for knives also. 400 grit on one side and 1200 on the other. You don't see to many stones get in the 1200 grit range I don't think. Then I swipe it on my leather belt a few times and you can literally shave with it.

I have one of the lansky sharpeners. The Gourmet set of rods with the wood block and predetermined holes. I can't get a knife sharpe on it at all. That other Lansky system looks to complicated. I'd have it sharpened and ready to go on my stone before I ever got it assembled.
